Testimony Of Karen Hocker I was born in 1954 in Springfield, Vermont, and was brought up as a Catholic. I married my first husband, Dave, in 1974, and he was also Catholic. I went to church, I was the only one in my family who went to church, but somehow I knew that it was empty, hollow, and Jesus wasn’t there. But I continued to attend the Church, not knowing where He really was, and prayed to Him every day, and even joined the choir, which required additional attendance and rehearsals.Dave and I had a good marriage, and had two children. In 1999, Dave needed to have gall bladder surgery, which was a same-day procedure at our local hospital, and something went terribly wrong. He ended up dying 13 days later in ICU at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and all of a sudden my life was drastically changed. Dave’s dad died the month after Dave did, and then three months after that, my own dad died. Also during this time, my daughter’s marriage failed, after only 5 months. For six months after Dave’s death I was in shock, and then a deep depression set in. That was when I called to the Lord asking (screaming) “Where are you?”, and crying uncontrollably. My sister thought I needed to see a bereavement counselor, so she set me up with one. Then, in October that year my grandmother died, and the office I worked in was getting new computers. I took off some time for my grandmother’s funeral, and then came in to the office to attend the training for the new computer software. Needless to say, my attitude was not the best. There was a nice guy named Charles who put in the computers for us, and he seemed gentle and kind. There was something about him. I wasn’t sure what it was. We talked a little bit and he told me a little about the Lord Jesus Christ, and that “I needed to come out of the darkness” and into the light. I later realized that Charles was sent by Jesus to be the answer to my prayer. Then, on November 8, right after the new computers were put in, there was a fire in our office. It started at midnight and no one knew why it started. Our office was completely destroyed! Now, the only thing that was “normal” in my life had now been taken away. I went reeling into panic attacks and severe depression, even contemplating suicide.

Now Charles had to come back to the office to put in new computers again! We worked together at the office, and I helped him with the installation of the computers, since there was really nothing else I could do, as our files had been sent to a cleaner to try to save them. He kept dropping some seed about the Lord, and how I could be free from all of this torment I was going through, if I would only let the Lord help.

I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior on December 16, 2000 (less than 2 months after I met Charles). I believe it happened so quickly because at that point I knew that only the Lord could help me. I know that all that happened with the fire was of the Lord. As further testimony that it was the work of the Lord, the insurance company for the office had destructive testing done to the copier (which was melted, and apparently the source of the fire) and the water machine, and after almost two years, the verdict came back: It was an ACT OF GOD. Charles and I knew that indeed it was! If it had not been for the fire, I would never have seen Charles again much at all, since he lived in a town 1 _ hours away. That next year as I was learning the Word, I was finding that my asthma would act up just as I was on my way to bible study. Then, on a trip, when I met a man of God, he asked me whether I wanted to be delivered of asthma. I said yes, I did. I was immediately delivered, and have been free of asthma ever since. After I returned from my trip, I went to my regular doctor appointment, and he said “let’s check your asthma”. He was shocked to see that “It’s like you never had asthma!” This is my testimony that the Lord continues to work miracles today as he did while he was walking on the earth.

Charles and I were married on July 14, 2001, and I realize just how much the Lord has blessed me in my life. I see the Lord continuing to move in Charles’ and my life, and in the lives of my family: my daughter has accepted the Lord, and I have hope and prayer for my other family members. As I was writing this testimony, it brought back to me once again the depth of the grace, mercy and love Jesus gives us every day.

The bible plainly teaches that all believers are ministers who are to faithfully occupy their place in the Body of Christ. After all, which part of your body, does not minister? The same is true of the Body of Christ, which is the Church. Unfortunately, most people’s image of a “minister” is one who has graduated from seminary with some lofty degree so that they can stand in the pulpit and deliver a sermon on Sunday morning. Sadly, this image has stunted the growth of many Christians who do not “see” how they can fulfill God’s call on their life. Through the biblical means of discipleship, we help believers learn how to walk in the ministry that God has called them to. Along the way, we issue “credentials” to mark their progress. There is no prescribed course of study nor time frame within which one must “graduate”. Rather, since it is the Lord who ordains and equips His ministers, the “credentials” that we issue simply document what we see the Lord doing with an individual

Most people begin their discipleship as “Christian Workers.” Christian Worker credentials are issued to believers who have evidenced a call to the ministry and demonstrated an eagerness to pursue that calling by entering into discipleship under the tutelage of one of our ministers. Christian Workers are authorized to perform ministerial functions, in an official capacity under the auspices of The Fishermen Ministry, only with the direct approval of his or her discipler. Licensed minister credentials are issued to those who have demonstrated their call to the ministry and submitted to discipleship under one of our ordained ministers. Licensed ministers are authorized to perform ministerial functions under the guidance of his or her discipler. Ordination certificates are only issued to those who have made full proof of their ministry and been found to be tried and true in the faith.

‘For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations’.

So saith the psalmist (Ps 100:5). Indeed because of His mercies we are not consumed. I was not consumed in the days of my ignorance but He had mercy and drew me to Himself. This is a rather short testimony of how the Lord found me. Read on…

My name is Lawrence Kojo Tsimese. I was named directly after my father’ so most of my schooling days I had signed junior as part of my name. I had a rough transition from childhood into adolescent life. My late parents were all Roman Catholics so from childhood I was brought up as a catholic. I had a strong desire to know more of my religion so I took all my catechism classes very seriously at both levels of first communion and confirmation sacraments. Everybody close to me thought I would one day become a catholic priest because of my dedication to the teachings of the church. Nevertheless there was a vacuum in me that wasn’t filled and made me feel very empty. I thought the answer was to become much more deeply involved in the doctrines and teachings of the church in order to gain more understanding in spirituality.
Therefore, when I left home to an all boys catholic secondary school, I enrolled in various church groups on campus just to find answers to the growing emptiness I felt within. I was with groups like the ‘Legion of Mary’, ‘Sacred Heart of Jesus’ and the ‘Altar Boys’. I was excited, I knew that I was going to have a greater understanding of spirituality and have greater power. But all the prayer rituals and proclamations did not help. I was like any ordinary person on campus. I participated in most of the ‘sins’ on campus.

I began to question my faith when during my third year in secondary school my mother became ill and died. The nature of her sickness defied all known medical treatments. We knew there was something spiritual about it because someone had cast a spell of sickness on her and had even openly boasted about it. If only I knew what I know today it would have been a different story. All that the catholic Reverend father could do for her was to give her holy water to sprinkle in her bedroom and recite the full rosary (all 15 mysteries). She did all these faithfully because she wanted to be well to take care of her children who were still young. I was the eldest of her 5 children (my father had other five children) and was only 15 years old. The church that I leaned onto could not fight a small witch’s spell and my dear mother died just like that.
Four years after the death of my mum, I suffered yet another major disaster in my life during my second year in agricultural college when my father also joined his ancestors. He was diagnosed with esophagus cancer (the cancerous growth was deep down his throat) and there was little the doctors could do for him. I was now an orphan. My paternal family was not sympathetic towards my siblings and me. They were much more interested in his property than in our wellbeing. Something had to happen otherwise I was going to lose faith in God. I felt disappointed in life.
One Sunday morning, whilst still in college, I prayed to God in my own words and asked him to be my helper and guide for the future. I had no one to look up to whilst my brothers and sisters were looking up to me.

There was a group on campus known as the Scripture Union. They met every Sunday evening at the college’s cafeteria for fellowship meetings. Until that faithful Sunday evening I had refused all invitations to attend their meetings because to me they were anti-catholic and therefore I did not want to have anything to do with them. But behold the appointed day for the Lord had come and that Sunday evening I found myself at the meeting. What a powerful experience that was. For the first time in my life I felt the convicting power of the word of God preached. It was like a hammer that knocked out all the religious pride in me and I yielded my life to Jesus Christ. It was such a beautiful experience that I have never had before. My old self gave way to a new man in Christ. I had a sudden strong desire to read the word of God and to pray and praise God. That emptiness I used to feel no longer existed. I have become a new creation and began to have new friends of the same calling. Other friends shunned my company because I had become part of the scripture union group. I didn’t care, because I did not want to give up my new found freedom. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed (John 8:36).

After college, I went home and continued attending church at the local Catholic Church where my father was a member. It was always a dry experience whenever I went to church. It was therefore a relief when I learnt that a very small unpopular group called the charismatic renewal met in the chaplet every Wednesday evening for bible study and prayer. I joined them at once. There I started growing spiritually. They took me through the Life and Growth in the Spirit Seminars and put me in leadership position. Then the group experienced a spiritual growth explosion as well as a phenomenal numerical increase from only 7 members when I joined to well over one hundred within nine months. The church authorities were alarmed and came up with all kinds of measures and standards to gain doctrinal control and stifle the Spirit. It was not possible. Who can control the Holy Spirit when He is working in the lives of men to bring them to the saving knowledge of God? They were mistaken. God was at work liberating His people. They had no option but to throw us out saying that we were anti-catholic in our way of doing things. We were not bothered; we even rejoiced that on account of His name we were thrown out. More than 90 percent of us found bible believing churches and joined and are still serving in the vineyard of the Lord today.

The Lord had not finished with me yet He opened the door for me to come to the US for an educational program I June 2002. Then in 2003 I came into contact with Steve Atherton of The Fishermen Ministry. During the period of acquaintance we saw how the Lord had orchestrated our coming together. Steve had prayed for God to send someone to the institute where I had studied to preach the word and crush the principalities that controlled it. Without knowing what I was into, every action, thought and word of prayer on the premises of that Institute indeed crushed the Institute’s controlling forces and today it is no more. I enrolled to go through discipleship under The Fishermen Ministry and ever since then the Lord had been dealing with me in a different dimension. Last July, I visited the Grace Ranch and met with Ricky Davis Eutsler. The experience was fascinating. God’s plan for my life at this stage is about to be unveiled. The nations are now before me to go in His power to minister His word to all whom He will bring my way. Blessed be God forever.

I’d been exposed to the Baptist church as a child. My mother and grandmother both believed on Jesus so we went to Sunday School and church sometimes. But my childhood was troubled and He didn’t help us. Someone said “Eve” started all the trouble in the world and ticked God off, so I concluded He was mad and most especially he did not like women. I felt angry at a god who would first make you as a girl and then hate you for it! I stopped going to church.

I eventually married, had three sons and became a widow by age 25. His suicide nearly killed me. This was the big blow out with God. I shook my fist and bellowed toward heaven and told him, “leave me alone”! I wanted nothing to do with him ever again.

I remarried and life went on, studying new age and ancient pagan religions and trying to believe but in my heart I knew it was at best hollow. Then I saw it was not; it was worse. It was Satan behind the curtain. I began to withdraw from that quest. Now I was back to confusion only to fill the void with patriotism and good works.

One night a TV evangelist was talking earnestly of God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice for all of us. Then he said, “pray with me and just accept Jesus into your heart and he’ll love you and help you and be with you alway.” I heard that call. I prayed sincerely and in earnest. I told Him how I’d told off His Father and how much I needed him and I was sorry. That was right and real and I felt it. I burned tarot cards and got rid of my occult books and paraphernalia. Many Christian people tried to pull us (my husband and me) into their various denominations. Eventually we asked The Fishermen Ministry (who we had known loosely for some years) to do a bible study. God’s word came alive and faith grew. My husband got saved and Jesus has blessed us especially in opening his word. In July, 2000, we were baptized in the water and in the Holy Spirit. He’s sent many ministers and brothers and sisters in Christ to us. The world has faded and God’s Kingdom is all that matters now. We have joy.

If you’re thinking of how to fill that void in you, try Jesus. He is well able and he wants you to know him. He’ll love you and help you always. He’s not fickle or unjust. He’s not far off and he cares for even the smallest part of you. He has forever taken away the migraine headaches I once had. Instantly and forever! He already loves you and wants you to love Him so he can pour his many blessings on you.

Pray with me; Jesus I believe you died for me, paid for all my sins yesterday, today and tomorrow and that you love me so I want you to live in my heart, teach me your ways, and I want to follow you always. In your precious name I ask and thank you. Amen.
