LISTEN TO ALL THE MEN’S BIBLE STUDIES ON THE BOOK OF 1 JOHN

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-02-04 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 1

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Scott Bishop

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 1

SUBJECT:

  • John, as Peter did, gives testimony that he was with Jesus and bears witness that He is the Son of God.
  • Bears witness to the line of authority (John 17, the Lord’s prayer for his disciples and those who would believe on their word).  Declared that which they had seen and heard that we also may have fellowship (spiritual fellowship) with them and Jesus Christ.
  • John is talking about the resurrected Christ in these verses. Jesus spent quite a bit of time with the disciples and many others making it clear that he had fulfilled all things.
  • Jesus’ death did not give us eternal life – it is His resurrection that gives us eternal life
  • Fellowship with us – when we are focused on the Lord as they were focused on the Lord we have fellowship with them.  We will know Him, talk with Him, know what He would have us to do in a situation and do it.  Joining in one mind and purpose.
  • Only place your joy is going to be full is in Christ Jesus.  It endures and is sustained because of that continuous hope.
  • Verse 5 – just like Jesus spoke only what His Father told Him, John is giving the same testimony, speaking that which Jesus gave them.
  • In our flesh is only darkness, we cannot see.  In the Lord we operate in His life, in Him is no darkness.
  • Have to prefer (love) your soul over your flesh.
  • If we have fellowship with Him we are able to walk in that new life.
  • If we walk in darkness and say we are in the light we are liars.
  • Cleansing takes place in our soul, from the sin which had overtaken us and corrupted it.
  • No unrighteousness in God.  He is righteous, we are unrighteous.
  • Garden of Eden God told Adam don’t eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Adam had access to the tree of life.  Adam ate of the tree of knowledge anyway, that is when he went into darkness.
  • When Jesus was arguing with the Pharisees he said, “before Abraham was I Am.”
  • Key to walking in light – He Is, He Is God, He Is What He Is.
  • When we take and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we step into a new world.  Our flesh remains in darkness constantly and seeks to eat of the tree of knowledge.  When we step into the light it is simply – I Am- anything beyond that is vanity. Key is to shed everything and stand in I Am.
  • Anything that is not of God is going to burn up.  Only that which is of God will remain, that which you cannot see.
  • The I Am – the eternal part that God gave us – Jesus, which is God.  We aren’t God but he gave us God therefore I Am.  When we let other things into the equation we start partaking of the tree of knowledge which is death.
  • We deceive ourselves if we say we have no sin.  David’s prayer – keep me from presumptuous sin.
  • Keep coming back to what the Word says, remember who we are and who He is.
  • We confess our sins to God who is faithful and just to forgive us.
  • Just to forgive us because God is mercy, because God is love.  He is faithful to His Word and His promises.
  • Faithful to cleanse us from all that is contrary to God

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-02-11 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 2:1-6

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 2:1-6

SUBJECT:

  • Paul’s testimony of God’s answer to the prayer of last Tuesday night.
  • Jesus Christ the Righteous – there is only one righteous – only Jesus.
  • When you go about trying to establish your own righteousness you are partaking of the sin of Cain.
  • Sins of the world – all sin – past, present and future, even the sins of those who have not yet been born.
  • You deny God when you accept Him and then don’t trust Him.
  • How can we walk even as he walked?  We do it by the same spirit Jesus did it by.  When you, a rank sinner undeserving of being able to do any good thing, go forth by faith, God’s grace is glorified.  You walk in humility, meekness (before God) having no confidence in the flesh but having perfect confidence in his Word.
  • If we know Him, we keep his commandments.
  • If we know Him we are going to know what he says and we’re going to do it.
  • By learning to obey, be submissive and humble to those in authority over you, you are going to be learning how to be that way with God – meek, humble, lowly of spirit.
  • His commandments are simple but you will never be able to do it in your flesh, we can only do it through Him.
  • We prefer to think well of ourselves rather than loving the truth.
  • How to keep his word – the Bible is the road map – you have to know it. Your minister is an important part of it.
  • The love of God will be perfected in you – it has nothing to do with feelings.
  • If you’re going to love Him you’re going to suffer what he suffered but you will have joy in Him.
  • There is no place where that joy, that grace cannot reach you.
  • We need to stand in His grace, it has nothing to do with us, it has everything to do with Him, you then can minister with compassion to others.
  • We need to get to the place where we are grateful for what he has done for us.
  • If you are of the Lord and seeking to walk after Him you cannot be touched until it is your time.
  • Jesus says you can do all those things, if you will just step out in faith my grace is sufficient for you.
  • All you have to do is change the way you look at things.

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 2:6-19

REFERENCES:

  • 1 John 2:6, which was looked at last week was also ministered on Sunday’s Texas service. Take the time to listen

SUBJECT:

  • Old commandment – the Gospel itself – when you see your need for a savior and accept the sacrifice of Jesus, God washes your soul.  He does not wash the flesh.  When we try to cover our sin it is like a bushel being put on a candle.
  • True Light that now shineth is Christ Jesus and he has made plain the things of God.
  • He is the example for us and we are to walk even as he did, being an example to others.
  • To be in the light is to be in the body of Christ.  If you are in the body you are in the light.
  • How to know if you are walking in the light, if you love your brother.
  • Love your brother as you love yourself – love your soul, not your flesh, love your brother’s soul.
  • When we love the soul that Jesus died for then the struggles we go through are opportunities to trust Christ.  When you go through them you will have a lot of Job’s friends around you – telling you all the things you have done wrong.
  • If you want to serve God, ask his help and he’ll help to cultivate a love for him and the things of God.
  • Sometimes you don’t know what to do but because you are earnestly seeking the Lord it will open up to you what to do because you’re purpose/motive is to love your brother.
  • What more does the Lord need in a situation than one of his servants seeking to be a faithful servant?  God will move on that person to show his love for the other and you.
  • Achilles heel with many Christians – they are afraid or preoccupied with causing someone to fall away.  A person whose eyes are on the Lord is not going to fall away by anything you do.
  • The walk of faith – you’re going to make mistakes.  It will provoke you to prayer.  The grace of God is an extraordinary thing and the glory is all His.  It is amazing how He covers it.
  •  3 stages (child of God – like in a bubble – God is cool!; servant of God is where you become tried and true, you have done whatsoever he has said; friend of God – when He tells you why He does what He does)
  • Fathers have know Him from the beginning – Jesus – I Am
  • Young men have overcome him (the devil).  Submit yourself unto God (you’re going to do what he says, where you yield yourself to another because you actually believe they know better than you), resist the devil (every pitch the devil makes to try to make you submit to your flesh you overcome)
  • Verse 16 – Eve tempted in these 3 areas, lust of the flesh (she was hungry), lust of the eyes (it was pretty), pride of life (it would make her wise)
  • Satan put Jesus under the same temptations. We are all tempted in these ways.
  • Concept of counting it all joy when you fall into divers temptations – it is in that place you are brought back to your need, need for the blood of the lamb.  The word of your testimony is strengthened.  As we grow in this our love for Christ grows.
  • Jesus did the will of his Father. Those who enter in do the will of the Father.
  • If you want to serve the Lord that is what you are going to do.  It is alright to acknowledge that you’re screwed up and ask the Lord for help.
  • Antichrists – false ministers of the Gospel, not ministers of the true Gospel.
  • John setting this up for a purpose – one thing you cannot fake is God’s love. Antichrists real purpose is to glorify themselves not Christ.  At some point they will be shown.  If you really love the Lord you will see it and see who really loves God.
  • If you’re going to serve the Lord you’re going to have to humble yourself.  You can’t love with his love without Him.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-02-25 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 2:20-29

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 2:20-29

SUBJECT:

  • Verse 20 – in relation to the verses before about where there are antichrists (not the antichrist) but people who have the same spirit.  These people all began with John and the other Apostles. Even as many today who begin in the Spirit and then get caught up in various lusts of the flesh, the most important one being pride and being all about them.  The true Christian always points people to Christ.
  • Any goodness we partake of comes from God.
  • Unction – the anointing of the Lord that comes down through the line of authority.
  • You know all things – referring to everything they have been taught they know. They do not need to be taught again, they already know it.
  • John 17 shows us how the Lord revealed himself and gave his word to those 11 and his prayer was for those 11 and also for those who would believe on their word.  They would have known that John was the line of authority.  They would have received it, walked in that, been pleased in that and would have operated as a unit.
  • What he is talking about here is division. The church today claims to know Christ but you know when you hear them speaking you know it is not in accordance with Christ.
  • No lie is of the truth.  Jesus is the truth.  It is not Christ that bring those things in, it is not of Christ.
  • How they train people to recognize counterfeit money is by teaching them every aspect of true money.  That is the job of a Christian, to know everything there is to know about the truth, then when somebody comes to you with something that is not the truth you will know it.  You are protected and potentially can help the other.
  • You can’t make excuses.
  • Difference between understandable and making excuse for it.  Understanding you can have compassion, making excuses they are never going to turn.
  • Denying the power thereof, from such turn away – the denying here is their denying what the Word says i.e. the Word says you are evil, that every man has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, when it says these things then you know that the only sacrifice that can take away your sins is the blood of God’s Son Jesus the Christ, and it is there with you till the very end.
  • As Paul said, Christ Jesus came to save sinners of whom I am chief, present tense.  It shows the power of the blood.
  • We know that Jesus and the Father are one and the same.  Those who deny that the Father and Son are one and the same are antichrist.  A lot out there who believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are three individual persons, each with their own body, their own soul, that is antichrist.  “Hear O Israel the Lord thy God is one God.”  Scripture shouts that Jesus the Christ is the Father, he came in the form of man to minister to us, to die for our sins and reconcile us to him.
  • Denying that – antichrist.
  • Cain & Abel – both were making an offering to God, one’s was acceptable, the other’s was not.  The only thing we can offer up is the offering that He gave us.  All Cain had to do was go to his brother and say I need a lamb for the offering, what will you take in exchange. But his pride wouldn’t let him, he wanted to offer the fruit of his own hands but God rejected it because it was cursed.
  • Moses, when asked who shall I say sent me – tell them the I Am sent you.  Jesus told the Pharisees that he was the I Am.
  • Denying that Jesus is the Christ are the ones that go around establishing their own righteousness rather than taking the gift of righteousness, a free gift taken by faith.
  • Take a look at the Monarch caterpillar, it goes into a cocoon (cave), it dies and comes back a beautiful creature.
  • When God is loving you he is not loving that caterpillar he is looking at you through his grace seeing that butterfly, that glorified creature.
  • Catholic priest preaching about the grace of God – it is not there for some people (Hitler or the like) they are denying the Son.  That is not what the Son says, he says my grace is sufficient for you.  It is not about you it is about Him.
  • When we do these things we are not only a liar but we are denying Jesus, the Son.  He died for the sins of the world, everybody, without exception.
  • Died for the sins of the world – he is talking about the seed of Adam, not the seed of perdition.
  • What needs to abide in you is that Gospel.  When you receive Christ Jesus you recognize you are a sinner in need of a savior and you are still a sinner in need of a savior and you will be a sinner in need of a savior to the end.
  • Christ saves you, he cleans you up and sends you forth and then you forget who you are, and all of a sudden take what he has done and think you are worthy and great.  That is why people think you are a hypocrite.
  • When you walk in the Gospel you recognize you are a sinner like everybody else.  The only difference between you and everyone else is the blood of Jesus.
  • Contrast between Abraham and Lot.  Lot looked down at the well watered valley of Sodom and said I’ll take that. Abraham was left with the mountains.  The valley is easier than the mountain.  If you are going to go forward to climb the mount of God you’re going to be on a mountain and you are going to have difficulties but it is those difficulties that God will manifest He is with you. Lot got soft and lazy.  Many Christians get soft and lazy and when the battle comes they can’t do anything.
  • You abide in Him by faith in the sufficiency of His sacrifice for you.
  • Even as it hath taught you – how did the anointing teach you – by faith. You shall abide in him – by faith.
  • Abide in him (by faith) that when he shall appear we shall have confidence, as though we belong.
  • Come boldly before the throne of grace, first you come when you need mercy which the Gospel empowers us to do.
  • Part of that confidence is that He distributes that mercy, it is receivable because that’s what He is, that’s what he does, because we need it, it is part of the whole deal.
  • When you receive that mercy you can stand in boldness as He did.
  • Lazarus’ death – Jesus wept because of the peoples’ unbelief, not that Lazarus was dead. His prayer that He knew that His Father always heard Him.
  • God doesn’t always hear you just because you are a Christian, but if you ask anything in accordance with His will, and are practiced in that very act and have experience of Him responding precisely in accordance with what you’ve asked because you’ve asked in accordance with His will, then you can in confidence confront the situations before you.
  • What Jesus was having to confront was these people expecting an expiration date on God’s power.  Jesus had that confidence that if he waited four days, then we can have these things settled when it worked.
  • This stuff testifies against us: unbelief, selfishness, pride that may yet be in our hearts – things God cannot honor.  These are things that if you want to get shed of, he’ll help you get shed of them.
  • Requires us to labor i.e. against unbelief.
  • How many times in the Bible did you hear Jesus pray for his disciples to be healed? You won’t find one. He prayed for those who were without that they could believe. Why is it then that Christians walk as unbelievers always seeking to be prayed for rather than walking in the faith that God has given them and taking authority over sickness and disease and stuff.
  • Sign seekers like, ‘Oh God still wants me’.  People come who are not believers, the Lord heals them.  Come back again wanting prayer.  Didn’t I pray for you before, didn’t you become a believer?  Yeah but this is different.  What’s different is that you haven’t stepped on the other side of the river, you’re still sitting in the desert wanting to be fed.
  • This is not us establishing our own righteousness.  Relating to the motive behind what we do. Jesus is righteous. When we are in Him and operating in obedience to Him and under the anointing of His Holy Spirit then the things that we do are righteous because they originate in Him.  It is not us going about doing righteous things so that we are acceptable to Him.  That is how we then walk, we walk as He walked because He is in us.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-03-04 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 3

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Phillip Walthall

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 3

SUBJECT:

  • Pretty amazing what manner of love God has bestowed upon us – that we should be called the sons of God (John 17).
  • The world doesn’t get who we are because the world doesn’t get who Jesus is.
  • He gave us power to become the sons of God – doesn’t mean we will be the sons of God.  This chapter lays out what it is going to take to become a son of God.
  • The decision is for each individual to make.  It won’t be pleasing to others. You will have tremendous opposition.
  • It is enough that God knows us and we know Him.
  • When he shall appear we will put off the corruptible, it is not seen now, but we will be like him – incorruptible, and see him as he actually is.
  • Purifying our self of the flesh, separating ourselves, an action we take. We reckon ourselves dead, this is what having the body under subjection means – then you can walk in the Spirit, walk in that purity.
  • Sin is the transgression of the law, the law was a schoolmaster to manifest our need for Jesus.
  • In Him (Jesus) is no sin – this is where our soul and spirit are to dwell in by faith in the operation of God.  In this place our soul and spirit is protected from the corruption in our flesh. Our flesh will be sinful but we do not have to operate in obedience to it.
  • Sinneth not – our soul and spirit which dwelleth in the body of Christ. Not talking about the flesh, cannot do it in the flesh.
  • If you are doing righteousness you are going to do as Jesus did, the same Spirit guiding and directing you is the same Spirit that guided and directed Jesus.
  • Sin of the devil in the beginning – pride. You cannot serve God in pride. Only way to walk in Christ is by humbling yourself.  The sin spoken of here is pride.
  • The devil could not see that he was playing right into the hand of God because of pride.
  • A person walking in pride cannot receive the Gospel, they can receive a false Gospel.  We have nothing to offer but the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, otherwise you are like Cain.
  • Cannot do anything without Him.  When you come to acknowledge that, now you can start doing.
  • Jesus destroyed pride, only way to enter into His kingdom and His life is humbly and you must continue in it.
  • Born of God – not referring to your flesh, referring to your soul and spirit.
  • Doeth not righteousness – goes back to motives – the same act can be done in pride and self righteousness  or in humility and God will inhabit the humble act. If you are not being motivated by His Spirit it is not of God.
  • You can see it, those walking in the grace of God and another trying to do the same thing but no matter how hard they try they cannot do it.  Just need to humble yourself.
  • One of the ways you see it manifested is you love your brother.
  • Example of loving your brother: the day Jesus was arrested he knew from the beginning of that day what was going to happen and yet he spent it loving his disciples, ministering unto them in love all the way to the end.
  • Cannot minister in love if you are all about yourself, you only can do it when you are about others.
  • Natural man born under the domain of the devil – our soul and spirit is to only be subject unto Him.
  • Love one another is the message we have heard from the beginning.
  • Not as Cain who was angry that his brother was accepted.  Instead of repenting and humbling himself he slew his bother.
  • Cain’s father was the devil. Abel was Adam’s son. Cain is never mentioned in the genealogy of Adam.
  • Common thing – wanting someone who is moving forward in the Lord to fall. Jealousy, same spirit as in Cain.
  • People who think they are good are actually bound up by the devil. Such people compare themselves to others, not to Christ.
  • Marvel not if the world hate you is a critical point.  The world is under the spirit of Satan, they’re going to hate you. You can’t serve God if that is going to bother you.
  • To hate your brother is to kill his soul, you are a murderer.
  • No murderer hath eternal life in him.  Murderers can be forgiven and set free, it is not a hindrance from being set free by Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus showed us the example – everyday on this earth he laid down his life for others. That is how we are to live, laying our lives down for our brother.
  • If we do these things, love in deed and in truth, we shall assure our hearts before him. How? You see him move and you know he is with you.
  • Our hearts frequently condemn us, we see we are not operating in love, we are operating in unbelief. God knows and understands the struggles we have and why we have them. God brings us through, not rejected by Him.  He is greater for which we thank and praise Him!
  • When your heart is to please Him, He is going to give you the desires of your heart.
  • Dwelleth in Him – in Him there is no sin, in Him is eternal life; not in our flesh but in your soul and spirit.
  • Commandment is to believe on Jesus and to love one another – not the law of Moses.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-03-11 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 4

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 3

SUBJECT:

  • Believe not every spirit referring to the many false prophets who have gone out, nothing has changed. Example of Elijah and the 300 prophets (false) of Baal.
  • Spirits – people – every person has a spirit and every person is led by that spirit.  When you become a Christian your spirit is joined to the Holy Spirit by Jesus Christ.
  • Believe not every person (spirit) but try the spirits for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
  • A Vision of Two Revivals – spirits – anointing.
    http://www.thefishermenministry.net/teachings/a-vision-of-two-revivals/
  • You feel good when you are under these false spirits/anointing.
  • Spirit of antichrist – say Jesus Christ did not come in the flesh.  This is talking about the fact that Jesus Christ came as a man and did the works of God in the same way we can do the works of God. He left his divinity and came as a man, born of woman. The only difference between him and us is he did not have the blood cell (sin) of Adam, this is the only difference.  It is why he had communication with his heavenly Father from the beginning – Psalm 22:9 “thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.”
  • When you realize this then you can walk in Him just like Jesus walked in Him and won’t be seduced by that spirit of antichrist.
  • God is not a respecter of persons so it is open to anyone.
  • Jesus did not do the works of God by his flesh but by God’s Spirit. We do not do the works of God by our flesh but by God’s Spirit.
  • Spirit of antichrist always in the world.  There will come a time when too little salt is on the earth and God will take His people out and then The Antichrist (one person) will come.  Those who remain and believe will get salty during this time but will lose their lives. Muslims walk in this spirit (of antichrist).
  • You don’t overcome by your greatness but by Him, His Holy Spirit that is in you.
  • They – false prophets – speak of the world therefore the world hears them.
  • Those who know God heareth them (the Apostles). This is the same thing Jesus said in John 17:20, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;”
  • Spirit of Truth vs spirit of error – if they couldn’t hear John they were not of God.
  • Litmus test when witnessing – if when you are witnessing they won’t hear you shine them on, they are not ready.  If you go on it’s of you, not of Him.
  • Love is important.  Knowing God – if you don’t know Him then you’re not saved. If you don’t walk in love, you don’t know Him.  You have to be born of God to love.  You cannot love otherwise.
  • Love of God manifested in that he sent his only begotten son into the world.  We cannot be made alive without his son.  We did not ask for it, he chose to send him.
  • God is love – love emanates from God. There can be no true love in the absence of God.
  • In every situation throughout an entire day that we run into there is a way to operate in that love. When you see that, now you see you can manifest God’s love.
  • It distinguishes you from every other person. They have seen Him because they have seen His love.
  • God lets the sun shine on the believer and the unbeliever. God lets his rain fall on the believer and the unbeliever.  Why would he not do that with his love?
  • People use “in the name of Jesus” like a formula as though since they say it God will do it.  In looking at the disciples they did not always pray “in the name of Jesus” rather they did these things in His stead, in His name i.e. when Peter’s shadow fell on people they were healed.  People came to Peter because they knew he knew Jesus.
  • We are to minister love to another to show unto them the love of Jesus Christ.  If you are hung up about what you just did you cannot minister.
  • The good Samaritan – not a parable. He had compassion.  He was the man’s neighbor.  This is the act of Jesus loving us first and this is what he is asking us to do, love them first.  When they receive the Gospel then their job is to love you who was neighbor to them.
  • If a person is accepted by God you better love him because it is the same God who loved you.
  • If you want God’s love to be perfected in you, you have to love one another.
  • If you’ve seen God’s love, you’ve seen the Father.
  • If we become one with God then we are manifesting Him and He becomes visible.
  • The Holy Spirit of God enables us to love.
  • We have seen and do testify – John is not just talking about the 3 years they walked with Jesus.  He also saw his death and resurrection, he talked with Jesus after the resurrection and then was anointed of the Holy Spirit and went forth and did the works of God.  He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt.
  • When you confess that Jesus is the Son of God you’re confessing the Gospel – confessing that it is the only way that you personally could be saved.  When you believe this then and only then can you confess this.
  • John himself, and the other Apostles, understood the love of God and believed what he told them.  This is exactly what his is telling us to do.  Because they did it so can we.
  • As he is, in the same way, so are we in this world.  When you walk in that you will have boldness in the day of Jesus Christ.  If you don’t you will have fear.
  • If you say you love God and hate your bother you’re a liar, you kid yourself.  Very easy to do, it is hard to love some people.
  • This is a litmus test.  If we can see that we don’t walk in love to our brethren we know we are a liar.
  • This is spoken to light a fire under us to strive (determine) to love your brother.  Keep striving, when you fall you pick up.  Keep fighting, don’t give up.
  • Herein is our love made perfect – it doesn’t start out perfect.
  • No fear in love. Fear is a spirit, a fiery dart of the wicked one designed to keep you from doing the work of God.  Got to defeat that spirit of fear.
  • Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane had to defeat that fear to go forward.
  • You are going to have to defeat, grapple with this because Satan and demonic forces are going to be firing these fiery darts.  You are going to fall but you overcome by exercising yourself against it.
  • Perfect love – God is perfect love. If we cleave to and become one with him fear is cast out.
  • How do you know you have fear, it has torment.  Turn into the fear and defeat it.
  • He that feareth is not made perfect in love. That fact that you are not made perfect yet doesn’t mean you won’t be – he has given you the tools to be made perfect in love.
  • Remember that he loved us first and never depart from that.  It is to have the Gospel in the forefront of your mind.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-03-18 Men’s Bible Study on 1 John 5

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker

SCRIPTURES USED:

1 John 5

SUBJECT:

  • Jesus is the Christ – John was a Jew ministering to Jews.  They believed David and Abraham. They had not known the name of God.  The idea that Jesus is the Christ, all other beliefs they could have wasn’t going to save them.
  • Jesus is the Christ – not the same sense of deepness today as then.  It doesn’t cost you anything to say it here.  It is like standing up and saying it in Iraq, you would be beheaded. Amongst the Jews when John wrote this they would be stoned.  It is not as big a deal today, it is an intellectual track people are following today.  Got to get to the meat, get Jesus into our bones.
  • Also a recognition that you are a sinner and there is no other way you can be saved.
  • Jesus is God – He is the Word in the beginning, all things were made by him.  He is the Word that became flesh.
  • Everyone that loveth him (God) who begat will love him whom he begat (Jesus). No way around it.
  • By this we know we love the children of God – when we keep his commandments.
  • His commandments – love one another and believe on Him, that is to believe his word, every word.
  • Without faith it is impossible to please God, but by faith all things are possible to us.  We, as Christians, are no longer to be in bondage: subject to the world and the things of the world.  We are to be subject to God.  Only way to do this is by faith and the knowledge of his word.
  • It is in the precise and correct knowledge of his word, walking in his ways. No longer walking in the ways of this world, you tread it underfoot.  Then you have overcome the world.
  • When you realize you are sin incarnate in your carnal man, then you want to walk in God’s ways. When you see that, then you are going to put off the old man and desire to walk in that new man in Christ Jesus.  Then you overcome the world.
  • You have to agree with the hopelessness of your situation, then you can receive the freedom Christ offers.  It is the truth that sets you free.
  • Christ came by water and blood. Water, the baptism of water, blood, he shed his blood on the cross.  The Spirit bears witness, not only when the Spirit came down and rested upon Jesus but because it raised him from the dead.
  • That Spirit is truth and it helps us discern between the truth and the lie.
  • These three are one – referring to One God – Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  • These three agree in one – referring to the baptism of water, baptism of blood and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. They agree in one, each has its purpose.
  • Entertaining angels unawares – talking about Apostles, messengers.
  • Only witness you should care about is the witness of God.
  • Witness of God that testified of his Son was the Holy Ghost.
  • He that believeth on the Son of God – you will have that witness of the Holy Ghost in yourself.
  • You can confess him but if you deny him in works you call him a liar. Why? Because you haven’t believed the record he has given.
  • If you are not dwelling in his Son you are not saved. Only thing that matters is will you be found in Him. Only way to be in him is to believe on him, believe what he says.  Old man has no fellowship with the Gospel, only the new man can.
  • Worker of iniquity, a person who walks in pride. You can only receive Christ Jesus in humility.  You can only walk in Jesus in humility.
  • One of the keys to walking in this is to come to that place where you realize God was not made for you, you were made for God.  We are his servants. He is not here to serve us.  Until we come to this place we cannot have joy.
  • When you make your life about being about his business your faith will grow mightily.
  • Litmus tests are here to show us where we stand to motivate us to press in to walk in that faith and that life.
  • You desire and prefer the truth even though you know it’s going to hurt sometimes.
  • You need to want to know when you are in error so you can get it right.
  • This is the confidence we have in him, if we ask anything in accordance with his will:  Look at the disciples’ prayer (Matthew 6: 9-13) and pray in accordance with that, then you are praying in accordance with his will. We then know he has heard and will grant it.
  • Faith is an action word. You go forth believing, know you are going to receive it, you go forth in that faith. When you realize you were made for God you go forth in his service.
  • God has a plan and you can be a part of it, you can go forth in his service vs. God has a plan for you making God your servant.
  • Sin a sin not unto death, ask forgiveness, he is not going to hold it against you.
  • Sin unto death, John doesn’t identify it so you can minister the Gospel in hope to everyone.
  • All unrighteousness is sin, when you are not standing in faith you’re standing in sin.  God cannot dwell in that. Not a sin unto death.
  • Sinneth not – speaking of the grace of God and dwelling in Christ.  Not our carnal man.
  • Begotten of God – keep yourself – our part to do, don’t take it for granted. Command your heart to believe God. Submit yourself unto God, unto Jesus, unto his Word. Operate in accordance with it.  Resist the devil, do not give him any place. We have to receive God, believe God, go forth by faith and resist the devil, then he will flee.
  • World lies in wickedness – they deny that he is the Son of God. They refuse to hear him.
  • There is no hope outside of Christ.
  • John had this understanding, it was given to him.
  • Bold statement that he, John, was dwelling in Christ Jesus, who is the true God.
  • Keep yourselves from idols.  Idolatry is easy to fall into.  Can idolize a minister, learning, spouse, anything. Easy because it is ‘sight’.  There is no idolatry in faith. Idolatry always dwells in something you see. Faith steps out because you choose to believe and step out.
  • Have to believe God yourself, no one else can do it for you.
