SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Scott Bishop
  • Phillip Walthall

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Colossians 1

SUBJECT:

  • An explanation of the term “brother”
  • A believer is a saint.
  • The testimony of what the Lord has done with this group is something that provokes Paul and Timotheus to give thanks to the Lord Jesus and to pray always for them.
  • Something interesting about the love to all the saints is that the Scripture tells us to esteem others above all else.  If you can’t esteem others as more important than yourself but you go out to feed the homeless or any of those type of things then it is not praiseworthy.
  • Hope is that hope of life eternal by Christ Jesus and the sacrifice He made.  The Gospel ministers hope to the seed of Adam.
  • The Gospel is a seed and when it finds good ground it brings forth fruit, which is love.
  • Knew the grace of God in truth –
  • When the Gospel is preached in truth then the hearers thereof go forward in the same grace of that same Gospel.
  • v9 – Since the day we heard it shows some insight into how the Holy Spirit works in the heart, mind and life of a minister.  In spite of Paul not being the one who came and delivered to those in Colossee, from the day he heard of it he was praying for them.  It is his desire that they not be behind in any great thing.
  • Wisdom – James 1:5  “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.  6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.  7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
    • This means God wants you to know the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding and to see things clearly.  God does NOT work in mysterious ways… if you humble yourself to receive from Him.
    • It is already given to us.  However a double-minded man won’t reach out and take it and won’t receive it.
    • Those who are prideful won’t receive because to them it’s not even given to those who are full of pride and rebellion.  If you are humble it is given to you.
  • To walk worthy means you bring honor to His name.
  • If you say you can’t understand, get rid of the rebellion and you’ll understand.
  • Your confidence and knowledge of how He operates will grow.
  • The grace of God covers the struggles you are going through and allows others to see the grace of the Lord in action and how you operate by faith in spite of your situation, not swayed by your situation.
  • With the love of God in you, you can relax and know God is in control and He can give the person what they need and correct them when the time comes.
  • Giving thanks unto the Father because He has made us meet to partake of the inheritance of the saints in light – this was done by what Jesus did on the cross and when He was raised from the dead.  We, being translated into His body of Jesus Christ we are able to partake of every good thing.  “Which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light” happens when He puts the cloak of Gods righteousness on you, you can be a partaker.  He can only do that because he took back the righteousness of Adam and gives us the righteousness of God if we believe and trust Him.
  • Redemption means buying back.
  • We must understand and get it in our head that the world and everything int he world is darkness.  The only light in it is the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God.  Our body stands in the kingdom of darkness, but our spirit stands by faith in the Kingdom of light which is Jesus.
  • Holiness and sanctification means to set yourself apart.  You look above to the Kingdom of God for your answers, not to yourself or the world or the ways of the world.
  • In whom we HAVE redemption through His blood … that is not only for the sins you committed prior to becoming a Christian, but for the present as well.
  • In this world there are thrones that come from the ruler of this world, satan, not from the kingdom of God.  They are both manifest at the same time.  If you see in the Bible others such as Jacob were referred to as Princes, but they had no worldly kingdoms.
  • God never had kings until the people rejected Him.  Then they were the ones who created kings.  They were set up by the people, not by God.
  • You have to be before all things if you’re going to create all things.  It was all done by the Lord.
  • Colossians 1:17 “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”  The grace of God is the only thing that holds everything together.  If you remove Jesus, everything is destroyed.
  • If you reject the head of the body, Jesus, you can not be saved.
  • Jesus exceeds us in everything He ever did or has ever done.
  • Our reconciliation with God is all done through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
  • The devil can and does give us things that we think is from God because it makes us feel good, and we become prideful in it and want to hold onto it, in spite of the fact that it was not of God, but rather the devil.
  • We are alienated from God because of pride and unbelief.  We are reconciled by Jesus dying in the flesh for you and me and unless you receive that and recognize there is no other way and that you were an enemy of His (until you recognized Him as your Lord and Savior) you cannot be reconciled with Him.
  • When you become unblameable and unreproveable in His sight when you are fully persuaded that His death on the cross was sufficient for you.
  • IF you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved, you will be presented holy, unblameable and unreproveable.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-08-26 Men’s Bible Study on Colossians 1:21-29

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Scott Bishop

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Colossians 1:21 to 29

SUBJECT:

  • When you are not moved away from the hope of the Gospel, that Gospel which you have heard and saved you… you will be holy and unblameable in His sight.
  • Once you receive the pure Gospel and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior it’s amazing how many ministers will come and try and turn you to another Gospel.
  • The body of Christ is persecuted in every generation and if you are a member of His body, this will happen to you.
  • Dispensation is like a corral … you can go anywhere within it but you cannot go outside of it.  He is a minister with boundaries set and he cannot go outside of those boundaries to fulfil the Word.
  • The Dispensation for Paul was to the Gentiles and every time he went to the Jews he got in trouble.  His pride was that he was so much more capable of ministering to the Jews.  He had to make himself base to go to the Gentiles.
  • Peter in ministry to the Jews was able to bear witness to the Jews in a way that Paul when he went forth himself was not able to do.
  • The ministry mentioned in verse 25 was to make known the mystery that was hidden for generations and that mystery was that God was going to save the Gentiles.
  • The prophets had spoken of the Gentiles being saved.  Paul’s ministry was to the Gentiles.
  • Paul understood the purity of the Gospel to be of utmost importance which we see in verse 28.
  • Luke and Timothy are examples of those who were made perfect in Christ Jesus even though they did not receive directly from Jesus Christ but received directly from Paul.
  • Being perfect in Christ is to have perfect trust and faith in Him and what He did.  It’s not about what you do, it’s about what He did.
  • Mark 16 says he that believeth shall be saved … believeth the Gospel, not dietary rules, not the law, but simply believe the Gospel.
  • Paul’s job was to make the Gentiles perfect in Christ.
  • You see Paul referencing himself and Timothy when he refers to “that we may…” or “We give thanks…” “…our dear fellowservant…” as seen in vs 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 etc.
  • We can become equal to your teacher – Luke 6:40  “The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.”
  • In all things Paul continually points to Jesus for absolutely everything.  The sufficiency of Jesus in every aspect of our lives.
  • Paul was a preordained elect seed of God predestined to a work of God.  The seed of Adam are not preordained to a certain place (like a person may join armed forces as lieutenant and end as a general).  Timothy and Luke were allowed to partake in the delivery of the Gospel.
  • There are 7 dispensations in the Bible starting with the dispensation of innocence.  Adam in the garden had the dispensation of innocence, when Adam sinned there was a new dispensation.  Some other dispensations include the dispensation of conscience, the dispensation of the law etc.  There are periods of time and set markers.  You have a beginning and an end and don’t go around it.  Each dispensation has rules and boundaries established by God and you cannot operate outside of it.  God has a plan and you can be a part of it, but God does not have a specific plan just for you.
  • When you operate in the dispensation the blessing of the Lord is upon you, but when you go outside of it you may not hear of them again as they are not blessed in it.
  • God has a plan.  That just exists.  If you are willing to be used by the Lord He will bless you.
  • Jonah is a good example.  God reveals Himself to the elect seed of God (He revealed Himself to Paul who thought He was doing the Lords will).

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-09-02 Men’s Bible Study on Colossians 2

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Scott Bishop

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Colossians 2

SUBJECT:

  • These people had not met Paul but he is battling for them and those at Laodicea that their hearts might be comforted (it is with the heart that we believe unto salvation), knit together in love. He wants them to come to the pure understanding, he wants them to receive that they may walk in the fullness of what God had for them.
  • When you have a true and accurate understanding of Jesus Christ, grace and mercy is multiplied unto you.
  • Mystery of God – Jesus is God. God took on a carnal body by the power of the Holy Spirit – by a woman, a virgin called Mary.
  • Pure Gospel which Paul preached – many things trying to turn them away.
  • Anybody who receives the pure Gospel they can go forward and walk in it.
  • If we will put our trust in the Lord He has all the things we need, including all wisdom.
  • Paul testified of what he sees in the Spirit and joys beholding their order and steadfastness of their faith.  The Lord sees their faith and Paul was in Christ Jesus. Because of Paul’s responsibilities as an Apostle, Jesus Christ opens it up to him so he can minister properly.
  • As you have received Christ Jesus – you received Him by faith, as sinners who needed a sacrifice to wash away your sin. We walk forward in that even though our natural man is still a sinner. We have to walk forward by faith in the Gospel and trust Him.
  • Rooted because if we move away from Christ Jesus we move away from Christ.
  • Beware – it is important.
  • Philosophy – has to do with emotions and feelings, that is why people like it.
  • You don’t have to go outside of Christ for anything. If you do you are going outside of the Godhead.
  • Principality & powers are referring to the Kingdom of God.
  • Circumcision happens at water baptism – buried with Him in the likeness of His death, by faith our soul and spirit are translated and preserved in the Body of Christ.
  • Quickened together with Him – giving you new life with Him.
  • Where there is no law there is no sin.
  • Taking away the handwriting of ordinance was dropping the charges having them nailed them to the cross.
  • Evidence against us was stolen & tossed in a sea and cannot be found.
  • Body of Christ – just look to Him.
  • Voluntary humility – basically a false humility.
  • Worshipping of angels – mostly has to do with worshipping men. Also, those who take a dead person and canonize them, making them a saint and pray to them. There is only one mediator between God and man, Christ Jesus.
  • There are no good people. There are faithful people who it is evident God is with – there faith is what we are to follow.
  • Apostles and prophets – the key means by which the Word comes down from the head – Jesus. It is them who the mysteries of God are given to.  It is the nourishment that causes the body to be strengthened.
  • If you reject them you are not rooted and grounded in Him and you are not going to increase in Him.
  • Separated from the rudiments of the world. Why then are you subject to them? Not one of them matters to Christ.
  • The people who follow the rudiments of the world – will worship.

Service Notes For Tuesday 2014-09-09 Men’s Bible Study on Colossians 3

SPEAKERS:

  • Richard Eutsler, Sr.
  • Steven Atherton
  • Paul Muller
  • Charles Hocker
  • Richard Eutsler, Jr.
  • Scott Bishop

SCRIPTURES USED:

  • Colossians 3

SUBJECT:

  • Water baptism – buried in the likeness of His death. Your soul and spirit are raised and dwell in Christ Jesus who sits at the right hand of God.
  • Seek those things which are above – we all experience the call of our flesh. The difference is those who set their affections on Christ.
  • Dead – then your soul, spirit and time here are set on the Lord Jesus Christ. Like Paul, Peter, Moses – when all of your life is in Christ no one can touch it. Completely different kind of attitude and one we need to learn to walk in.
  • When you give up your old man Christ Jesus becomes your life.
  • If your address is here on earth why would you think you would be one who rises up to meet Him. Also, when He comes back at the battle of Armageddon He comes with His saints arrayed for battle and they win 100%.
  • Mortify – to slay or to kill – referring to your carnal nature, that which we used to walk in, all we knew and familiar with.  We have new things to learn in the Kingdom of God.
  • How do you mortify the flesh? You are going to have things come against you – thoughts, feelings – don’t join with it, mortify your flesh.
  • Uncleanness – living to the satisfaction, appetites of your flesh.
  • Inordinate affection – up and down, up and down. The opposite of temperate.
  • Evil concupiscence – a craving for something forbidden, rooted in desire to return to it instead of setting your affection on Him.
  • Covetousness – constantly want something more, never satisfied – idolatry because you put things above the Lord.
  • Put off:
    • Anger – what controls you, leads to violence. Have to put it off, you feel justified.
    • Wrath – type of fierceness that comes upon people.
    • Malice – ill will towards another, desire to see bad things happen to people.
    • Blasphemy – slander, railing against the Lord and others.
    • Filthy communication – foul mouthed.
  • Lie not one to another – speak truth one to another. People may not like it but it engenders respect, may cause them to think about what you said.
  • Knowledge – true and accurate knowledge of who Jesus Christ is. Jesus is the image, the standard, we are to come into conformity to. He will have to become pretty important to you for this to happen.
  • All of this is our choice – as you make the right choices the grace of God is going to come upon you to accomplish it.
  • Every single prejudice you have is gone, obliterated, in Christ Jesus.
  • If you appreciate His mercies, kindness, humbleness, meekness and longsuffering you are going to want to do the same.
  • The same way as you see the elect seed of God do this.
  • Put on:
    • Bowels of Mercy – just comes forth from you, part of your nature.
    • Kindness – type of integrity, looking for those thing that are helpful to others. Being mindful of where they are coming from.
    • Humbleness of mind – thinking little of oneself because it’s the truth.  Like Paul who stated he was the chief of sinners.  The knowledge of our sin should humble us.
    • Meekness – ready to receive the Word without judgment.
    • Longsuffering – constancy, steadfastness, endurance. Slow to avenge wrongs.
    • Forbearing – be inconvenienced, carry something for another until they can carry it themselves.
    • Forgive – be quick to do. Your desire is to have that reconciliation that forgiveness brings.
    • Bond of perfectness – charity – God is love, it seals you in that perfectness.
  • Let – a determination you make to allow the peace of God and the Word of God rule in you. You have to get rid of fear and then that peace will rule you.
  • Word dwell richly – cannot reject it, if you do you are not letting.
  • It is there for us to walk in, we have to let.  All about putting off you and putting on the mind of Christ, who served His Father.
  • If you let the Word of God dwell richly you are going to teach and admonish others.
  • Grace – when you realize you are saved by grace then you can have grace towards another.
  • Peace of God – doesn’t have to do with feelings. You are no longer at war, an enemy to God.
  • Every single thing you would do or say do in the Lord Jesus. You might find there are things you cease to do.
  • Wives submit to your own husbands, not every man. It implies a yielding to another recognizing they probably know better than you do. The attitude in which you do it determines whether you are submitting.
  • Husbands love (agape) your wives – doesn’t mean you try to please her but that you do that which is right.
  • Bitter – men talking about their wives which develops a root of bitterness.
  • Children obey – to listen or hearken – it is your desire to hear the instruction and commandments of another because you know it is good.
  • Provoke not to anger – the manner in which we handle children’s flub ups so they continue to have hope and do not get discouraged and give up.
  • Servants obey – because you do all things as unto the Lord your desire is to serve them faithfully whether they notice it or not.
  • Singleness – an expression of your singleness toward God.
  • Whatever you do give your all as unto the Lord. It is a joyous thing. Then what others do just doesn’t matter.
  • Inheritance – we have in Christ because He is the one we are serving.
  • No respect of persons – God deals with everyone the same way. A good thing, a promise that you are going to be treated fairly.
